Yelapa sits in a jungle-walled cove beneath the Sierra — no cars, no road, just pangas crossing from Boca de Tomatlán in about half an hour. Grid electricity arrived only in recent decades, and rainy-season outages still send neighbors out to start generators, as they have for years.
